Kyoto, Japan (November 23, 2020) — Coarobo GK was prominently featured at the 5th Human Support Robot (HSR) Annual Users' Conference (AUC), hosted by Toyota Motor Corporation. Coarobo GK's President & Founder, Lotfi El Hafi, delivered an invited lecture during the plenary session, introducing the HSR Software Development Environment (SDE). This innovative platform, developed collaboratively within the HSR Community, aims to streamline interdisciplinary teamwork and accelerate robotics research on HSR by containerizing the entire development, simulation, and operation process into a shareable virtual environment.

The lecture, titled "Getting Started with the HSR Software Development Environment for Team Collaboration on Robotics Projects and Competitions," highlighted the motivations, tools, and strategies behind the SDE's creation. Lotfi El Hafi shared insights from his leadership of the HSR SDE Working Group, emphasizing the platform's potential to empower teams working on large-scale research projects or preparing for international robotics competitions. "The HSR SDE represents a significant step forward in enabling seamless collaboration and innovation within the HSR Community," said Lotfi El Hafi. "We are proud to contribute to a shared vision of advancing robotics research and development."

The presentation also marked the public release of the HSR SDE, following a successful private testing phase conducted with core members of the HSR Community since 2019. Attendees were provided with an overview of the platform's capabilities and its role in fostering collaboration and integration among researchers and developers. The event underscored Coarobo GK's commitment to driving progress in robotics through open innovation and community-driven solutions.

Abstract

"The presentation describes the motivations, tools, and strategies to successfully get started with the HSR Software Development Environment (SDE) collectively developed within the HSR Community by the members of the HSR SDE Working Group with the support of Toyota Motor Corporation. The HSR SDE aims at 1) enabling interdisciplinary teams to quickly start using the HSR in their projects, and 2) accelerate research implementation and integration between the members of the HSR Community by containerizing the whole HSR development, simulation, and operation process in a virtual environment that can be conveniently shared between users. The presentation also marks the initial public release of the SDE that has been evaluated in a private testing phase through a small-scale deployment within the core members of the HSR Community since 2019. Finally, this presentation should particularly be of interest to teams collaborating on large research projects or preparing for international robotics competitions with the HSR."
