Coarobo GK is pleased to announce the continuation of its research engagement with the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR) on the Cybernetic Avatar Platform (CA Platform) into Phase 2 of the JST Moonshot R&D Program , which entered a renewed five-year period on April 1, 2026. The platform is the connectivity and control foundation of the Avatar Symbiotic Society project, led by Prof. Hiroshi Ishiguro of The University of Osaka as part of Goal 1 of the program. Following three consecutive Phase 1 contracts delivered between January 2025 and March 2026, the renewed engagement begins on May 12, 2026.
Phase 2 work continues to advance the Unity-based client stack for the CA Platform, including persistent device selection for cameras, microphones, and speakers, configurable multi-display layouts, dynamic per-avatar control panels, and stereo audio routing for natural remote conversation. The new client is being prepared for deployment at MIRAI hive, the University of Osaka, a permanent public venue at Grand Green Osaka where visitors will be able to interact with cybernetic avatars. The work builds directly on the platform components Coarobo GK delivered during Phase 1, including the Cybernetic Avatar Platform Framework (CAPF) library, its Unity package, the multi-display client, and the Unity UI Toolkit and Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) architecture introduced earlier in 2026.
During Phase 1, Coarobo GK supported the deployment of cybernetic avatars at the Future of Life Signature Pavilion at Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025, where R&D Engineer Sebastian Carrera spent 82 days on-site over the six-month exposition. The renewed engagement, at significantly expanded scope, reflects ATR's confidence in the platform components delivered to date.
Continuing to develop the CA Platform with ATR into Phase 2 is a meaningful endorsement of the work our team has carried out over the past year and a half. We are looking forward to bringing the platform from research deployments into venues that the general public will visit as part of daily life.
Coarobo GK remains committed to advancing cybernetic avatar technologies in close partnership with leading research institutions, throughout Phase 2 of the Moonshot R&D Program and beyond.
