Coarobo GK is pleased to announce the launch of OpenRoIS , a community-driven open-source middleware implementing the Robotic Interaction Service (RoIS) Framework 2.0 of the Object Management Group (OMG). Its official website went online on June 24, 2026.
Service robotics applications are usually written for one robot at a time, so every new pairing of an application and a platform calls for an integration of its own. OpenRoIS gives service applications one standard interface to the platforms that carry them out, whether physical robots, virtual avatars, or AI services. A service application is written once and runs on every platform that offers an adapter, so that connecting many applications to many platforms takes one adapter per side rather than one integration per pair.
OpenRoIS is released under the Apache License 2.0 and developed in the open on GitHub , where researchers and developers can follow its progress, report issues, and contribute adapters for their own robots and services. The project is led by Sebastian Carrera, R&D Engineer at Coarobo GK, as a community-driven effort.
Every service robotics project we have worked on rebuilt the same bridges between applications and robots. With OpenRoIS, we want that work to be done once, in the open, on a standard that anyone can implement. We invite the robotics community to try it, challenge it, and build on it with us.
Coarobo GK remains committed to open standards and open-source software that lower the technological barriers of robotics.
